Hello, Blogging World!

So -

I've created my own blog for this EDUPL 270.04 leadership course designed for Greek chapter presidents. It's all about social change!

In what ways can I see how I'm becoming aware of my motivations to work for social change? This question sort of confuses me...I'll just take it & run with it. I brought my own sorority to campus with 10 other strong female leaders. We worked very hard to create something that would have an everlasting change on the campus community (so we hope!) as it is the first of its kind - a multicultural sorority. Sure, there are sororities based off of different cultures (asian-interest, latino/a-interest) but none all-culture-encompassing. Bringing this to campus created social change in that we not only brought an organization to campus but various programming that seeks to raise awareness for different cultures people may not normally experience. Simply being a part of my organization, all the way from starting it to creating programming for the general student body, shows my motivations to work for social change - i.e. an acceptance of diversity and increasing multicultural awareness!

And how are these experiences shaping me as a leader? Generally, leading a group of students as President is being a leader. I'm also inspiring others to be a part of the cause by joining the sorority, coming out to our multicultural events and even doing service for the community. Being in this class is certainly shaping me to be a leader....a good one at that!

I can't remember a time when I even thought about social change, to be honest. I guess I thought about the simple things - like, how did MLK Jr. start his path in civil rights activism? Where the heck did Mother Theresa start? After reading pages 24-28 of our text I realize that everyone starts small... we don't all start as heroes! I mean, look at Wonder Woman and her transformation (below)!
